GALETON AREA SCHOOL BOARD VACANCY
The Galeton Area School Board is seeking community member interest from Region II—Gaines Township, Elk Township and Galeton Borough first ward -- to fill a vacancy on the Board from now through November 2023, at which time the seat will be filled through the November 2023 municipal election.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: a citizen of Pennsylvania, current resident for at least one year of Region III of the District, of good moral character, and at least 18 years old.
An individual may be ineligible to run for/hold the office of school director subject to state/federal laws. Following are some of the applicable laws, others laws may also determine eligibility.
The PA Constitution bars from elective office anyone convicted of an "infamous" crime, which the courts have interpreted to include various misdemeanors based on the nature of the crime and all felonies.
·Section 324 of the PA School Code prohibits school directors from being employed by, or doing business with, the district where they are elected or appointed, subject to certain exceptions.
Section 322 of the School Code contains a list of municipal offices that are incompatible with holding the office of school director. County, borough and township codes also contain their own restrictions for holding offices concurrently.
To apply, submit a letter of interest and a PA Statement of Financial Interests: https://www.ethics.pa.gov/HowTo/Documents/Statement%20Of%20Financial%20Interests%20REV%201_23.pdf to Penny Crowell, Board Secretary, Galeton Area School District, 27 Bridge Street, Galeton, PA 16922 by July 6, 2023. School Pink Out Day #2:
Thank you, Mr. Tameris, for all you've done for GASD!
We hope you can join us tonight at 5:30!!
On Monday, May 8, 2023, please join us for our final Community Workshop of the 22-23 school year! Each month, the school has invited our parents and community members into the building for a positive, solutions-based discussion about a planned topic, giving us an opportunity to generate ideas and work together to continue making improvements for our students. We always look forward to hearing from our district, and we hope to see you at our final workshop of this school year!
Our meeting for May will cover two topics: “Questions on the Building Project” to give community members a chance to ask any and all questions you may have regarding the building project that will begin on June 5, 2023 at the school, as well as “Ideas Moving Forward” to allow for any ideas, concerns, etc. to be shared so there is time to plan for any changes for next school year. We are very open to hearing from the community and continuing to improve!
The meeting will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023 from 5:30PM-6PM in the Conference Room at the school (enter through the main office doors). We hope to see you there!!
Friday's Signing Day event was a huge success! Thank you to Mrs. McPherson for putting together such a beautiful event, and congratulations to our three senior girls who will be continuing on to play volleyball in college next year!
