ALL MEALS MEET FEDERAL AND STATE GUIDELINES.
All meals will meet federal and state guidelines. Students must take 3 of the 4 items offered at breakfast, and 1 of those items must be a 1/2 cup fruit. At lunch, students must take 3 of the 5 items offered and 1 of those items must be a 1/2 cup fruit or vegetable. We are excited to introduce the “Pack and Carry” Option! Students that still want to pack a lunch may do so and also still participate in school lunch. We offer fresh fruits (apple, banana, orange, etc.), fresh veggies (baby carrots or tossed salad for example) and a choice of milk. for students to take as they go through the serving lines. These items, along with the packed items, will help complete their lunch at no additional cost to you.

 ARE ALA CARTE ITEMS INCLUDED?
Students who wish to purchase an extra entree, one of our snack options, or just milk must pay for them. This program does not apply to ala carte items.

 CONVENIENTLY MANAGE STUDENT ACCOUNTS.
You can add money for your student(s) account to purchase extra meal items or snacks, identify when and what your child/children are eating, and receive low balance account notice by visiting your online payment service School Café.

Ala Carte:  extra entrees, snacks, milk or other drinks are also available by paying for the item.

The Galeton ASD online payment system is called SCHOOL CAFE. The Schoolcafé app. can also be downloaded on a cell phone so students can use the bar code feature to get their meal.

Children with Disabilities and Special with Special Dietary Needs:

Schools participating in a federal school meal program (National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, Special Milk Program, and Afterschool Snack Program) are required to make reasonable accommodations for children who are unable to eat the school meals because of a disability that restricts the diet.  If you need these services, please complete this form and return it to the school office.

GALETON AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENT MEAL CHARGING PROCEDURE GUIDELINES

To our Galeton School District Families,

Galeton Area School district participates in the National School Breakfast and Lunch program Administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The District is currently CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) approved and all meals are free. To ensure no gap in free meals between CEP approvals, a parent/guardian may wish to apply for free or reduced price benefits through either the Compass State Web-site https://www.compass.state.pa.us/Compass.Web/Public/CMPHome. You can also apply using a paper application available from the Galeton District Office.

Galeton Area School District shall follow the guidelines below for unpaid meals:

  • A student who requests a school meal must be provided with one regardless of whether the student has money.

  • A student’s tray is never to be taken away from them after being served due to the student’s inability to pay for the meal or the amount owed.  Likewise, a student may not be required to discard a school meal after it is served.

  • A student may only purchase à la carte items if they have money available in their account. Students will be informed if they have no money for à la carte or they need cash to pay for it.

  • À la carte sales will not be allowed if there is a negative balance.

  • We will accept checks or cash in an envelope marked with your child’s name, and ID number.

  • A student will not be used as a communication channel to the parent/guardian. All communications will be directed to the parents or guardian, NOT the students regarding negative accounts.

  • Communication such as emails and letters will be sent to the parent/guardian not the student regarding negative accounts.

  • If a child’s account falls into the negative, a balance notification email or a letter will be sent to the student’s home.

  • When a student owes money for five or more school meals, the school will make at least two attempts to reach the parent/guardian to apply for participation in the school food program.

  • A letter will be sent to the household if no payment is made towards the negative account by the Cafeteria Manager.

  • If you would like to be contacted through email you can reach the Cafeteria Manager at galeton@thenutritiongroup.biz

  • The Principal will be informed by the food service department when there is a non-response from the parent/guardian about the negative account and will proceed by direct communication with the parent/guardian.

  • If there is a non-response to the Principal, the Superintendent will be informed and additional collection measures will be pursued.

  • All debts must be paid off at the end of the school year.

  • Any negative balance remaining at the end of the school year will be considered delinquent and must be paid prior to June 30th to avoid collection by outside agencies which may result in collection fees.

Insufficient Funds Fee: Any bank fees due to insufficient funds or returned checks will be passed back to the check signer.
