GHS 1970 Graduate Promoted to Brigadier General

COLONEL (P) FRANK JOSEPH SULLIVAN            

     Colonel Sullivan was born in Wellsboro, PA.  Colonel Sullivan is a 1970 graduate of Galeton High School.  He received his Bachelor's Degree from Catholic University of America in 1975.  He has a Master's Degree in Architecture from Catholic University, Washington, D.C., and a Master's Degree of Public Administration from Auburn University.  He also received a Design Certificate from France and earned graduate credits from the Rome Studies Program in Rome, Italy. Colonel Sullivan is a 1982 graduate of the Academy of Military Science.  He began his military career in 1982 when he was commissioned as a second lieutenant at the Academy of Military Science.  In 1983, he was assigned as engineering officer in the 201st RED HORSE Squadron, Ft Indiantown Gap, PA.  A 1987 graduate of Squadron Officer's School in residence; a 1994 distinguished graduate from Air Command and Staff College in residence; and a 2003 graduate of the Air War College by correspondence.        

    He deployed numerous times to Central and South America.  He assisted with building base camps, roads and schools during the next ten years in missions such as Fuentos Caminos in Honduras, Panama, Haiti and Ecuador. Colonel Sullivan has also been the officer in charge of Air Force civil engineering deployments to Germany, Italy, England, Jamaica, Canada, Qatar and within the United States.               

   From 1999 to 2001 he served as the first inspector general for the 193rd Special Operations Wing, Harrisburg; and in 2001 Colonel Sullivan was appointed commander, 201st RED HORSE Squadron.  That same year, the 201st was the first National Guard RED HORSE Squadron activated for the Global War on Terror.  He was the commander of over 400 RED HORSE personnel deployed in nine countries including Afghanistan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Djibouti.   Colonel Sullivan served for eight months constructing air bases, runways, infrastructure installation, telecommunications facilities and other wartime tasking. 

   In 2005-2006 he served a one-year tour of duty in Iraq where he was commander of the 732nd Air Expeditionary Group, the largest Air Force Group in Iraq.

                Colonel Sullivan serves as the Director of the Joint Staff, Headquarters, Pennsylvania National Guard, Fort Indiantown Gap.  He is responsible for managing programs and operations for the 100-plus member joint staff and overseeing issues that impact the 19,000-member Pennsylvania National Guard.
